“PIRATEN MEER (PIRATE COVE)” NORTH SEA WATER PARK IN BÜSUM
The adventure water park “Piraten Meer (Pirate Cove)” and the visitors and event centre in the North Sea spa town of Büsum have been supplied in an efficient and environmentally friendly way with electricity and heat since early 2013.
THE CHALLENGE
Development and realisation of a new and modern energy concept with a high proportion of green power and high energy efficiency for the visitors and event centre and for the “Pirate Cove”.
THE GOAL
Up to 70 percent of the heat required for the visitors and event centre as well as the “Pirate Cove” are to be covered with green heat. Moreover, the extracted electrical energy is to be fed into the public power grid as green electricity. This considerable improvement of the CO2 footprint enables Büsum to continue positioning itself as a climate-friendly holiday destination on the North Sea coast.
OUR SOLUTION
GETEC installed a high-efficiency CHP unit, which supplies heat and electricity to the spa centre of Büsum in a climate neutral fashion by means of combined heat and power generated from green gas (biomethane in natural gas quality). The generated electricity is fed into the power grid. In January 2013 the new energy supply plant was commissioned after only three months of construction. The following work was carried out: Placement of the CHP unit in the area of the old sanitary facilities, set-up of a local heating pipeline for the supply of the visitors and event centre, hydraulic incorporation of the CHP unit into the boiler systems, backfitting of a buffer storage and modification of the EI&C technology.
