GETEC Green Steam

Oil mill Brökelmann in Hamm saves 90% CO2 per year thanks to climate-friendly steam supply with GETEC Green Steam

Hamm/ Magdeburg, 25 October 2021 Ölmühle Brökelmann + Co Oelmühle GmbH has commissioned GETEC with planning and installing a new climate-neutral energy supply system for its oil mill in Hamm. In the future, the entire plant of the manufacturer of exquisite edible oils will be supplied with heat from a modern biomass heating plant. Operation of the new energy supply is scheduled to start in October 2023. The new investment will save over 90 percent CO2 in the future and generate steam and electricity for production in an almost climate-neutral manner.

The showcase project will be realized via the GETEC Green Steam-concept. The oil mill terminates the firing with fossil fuels ahead of time and switches to climate-neutral firing with biomass. This not only saves 90% CO2. Thanks to the perfectly fitting plant as well as an innovative fuel concept, this is also implemented absolutely economically for the customer. The biomass heating plant has a capacity of 17 MWth as well as around 0.5 MWel and produces up to 23 tons of process steam per hour.

"As a future-oriented and sustainably thinking company, Brökelmann, in cooperation with our long-standing partner GETEC, relies on an energy supply based on residual wood and regional landscape maintenance material. The regional fuel sourcing, in combination with state-of-the-art technology, results in a processing heat supply for Ölmühle Brökelmann that optimally combines climate neutrality, competitiveness and the economic performance of a modern industrial company," explains Christian Schelenz, Managing Director of Ölmühle Brökelmann.

"We are pleased and very proud to be able to realize this GETEC Green Steam project with our long-standing partner Brökelmann. In this way, Brökelmann is positioning itself for the future in terms of sustainability and profitability. We also took a completely technology-open approach to this project, examined many alternatives and then selected the best solution together with our customer," explains Thomas Wagner, CEO of the GETEC Group.

The planning, construction and operational management of the plant will be realized throug the energy service contracting proccess in accordance with GETEC's Green Steam approach. Financing for this project will come from the company's own shares as part of the energy service contracting agreement and from subsidies from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy based on a resolution passed by the German parliament.
