Dairy works Mittelelbe, Stendal (Saxony-Anhalt)
The Milchwerke Mittelelbe GmbH dairy plant turns up to 350,000 tonnes of milk per year into premium quality foodstuffs such as baby food, milkshakes and speciality powders using 14 spray tower plants plus other modern production, bottling and packaging facilities.
The customised GETEC energy solution
Modern and efficient energy supply concept for the dairy industry.
The challenge
Additional energy is required for the production systems of the dairy works due to an expansion in the production and the associated increased energy requirements. A new and efficient energy supply concept has to be designed and realised for this purpose.
The goal
Development and expansion of a cutting-edge energy concept.
Our solution
Within the framework of a management contract, initially GETEC constructed a steam generation plant followed by a natural gas-fired engine-based cogeneration system.
Three gas engines (CHP units) simultaneously supply heat for the drying and the various cleaning processes as well as electricity that substitutes the consumption drawn from the grid.
Facts and Figures
CO2 savings
10,500 t/a
Steam generation system
Fuel: Natural gas (H) / Extra-light heating oil (HEL), 30 MW, saturated steam: 16 bar
CHP unit with waste heat recovery boiler
Fuel: Natural gas, 3 x 1,710 kWel, 3 x 1,790 kWth, saturated steam: 16 bar

Industrial park Friedrichsort, Kiel
Kiel-Friedrichsort is not only close to nature but also an industrial centre. The former Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK) site has developed into a modern heavy-machinery location. International companies from the engine construction, rail engineering and foundry industries and other service providers and suppliers take advantage of the ideal infrastructure conditions at the site in Friedrichsort, such as access to the Kieler Förde and on-site sidings. With around 1,200 employees and an area of about 65 hectares, the industrial park is a major industrial centre and an important employer in the Kiel region.
The customised GETEC energy solution
The challenge
The complete supply structure of the industrial park was to be assigned to a single provider. Extensive retrofitting and upgrades were needed in this context.
The goal
The new operator was not only supposed to retrofit and upgrade, but also to finance the transferred supply systems.
Our solution
As part of customised energy service contracting solutions for the customers at the industrial park, GETEC has assumed the responsibility for all functional and cost risks associated with the supply of energy and utilities as well as system and facility management since 2011. This includes the provision and demand-based delivery of steam for production and heating purposes, electricity, compressed air, drinking water, extinguishing water, cooling water and natural gas for engine test beds.
Facts and Figures
Steam
Centrally: 2 hot water boilers (4,200 kW + 1,300 kW)
Locally: 1 hot water boiler (215 kW), 4 water heaters (230 kW), 20 dark radiators (680 kW), equivalent to a total of 1,125 kW
Compressed air and natural gas
Compressed air: 3 compressors with a total capacity of 2,800 m³/h
Natural gas supply: in 3 pressure stages with 5,700 kW of connected wattage
Electricity and water
Electricity: Medium voltage network with 9 transformer stations (connected wattage: 16,000 kW)
Water: The well operation is scheduled to be shut down shortly. We will then use the grid of the municipal works for the supply. Approx. 22,000 m³/a were delivered in the past three years.

Paper-mill Julius Schulte, Trebsen
The company Julius Schulte Trebsen GmbH & Co. KG is one of the leading German providers of corrugated board base stock and specialty paper.
The customised GETEC energy solution
The challenge
A new economical concept was supposed to cover the high steam and electricity requirements. In addition, the location was supposed to supply heat and electricity to cover its own needs.
The goal
Set-up of two complementary plant concepts capable of ensuring the highest possible security of supply.
Our solution
GETEC is building a natural gas fired combined cycle gas turbine power plant (CCGT) as well as a pulverised lignite fired cogeneration power plant.
